Think of Melissa -- March 11, 1984 to September 22, 2002

July 24 | Super Mario Kart
She had always been better at gaming systems, specifically the Super Nintendo, than I was. Most everyone was better at them than me, but she loved to beat me time and time again.

I was especially bad at any sort of racing game. Put me in a car and make me turn corners, fine. But put me in a car and make me turn corners with a Nintendo controller, no can do. I would inevitably run into a wall and go around the track at least once in the wrong direction.

And she loved that. Because that would mean she would win.

She would hunt me down, pull me away from my book, and make me race her. Any two-player game would suffice, but Super Mario Kart was the favorite.

And boy, did she kick my butt every single time. I do not remember one instance of my character in the winning circle while hers was not.

Bridger and I got a Super Nintendo a while ago and I immediately pulled out Super Mario Kart and convinced him to play with me. Apparently all of the butt-whooping I endured from Melissa was great training for whooping butt on Super Mario Kart, and now Bridger will not play with me.
