December 22 | Shortcuts
I went to lunch with a co-worker today and she suggested we take 'a scenic route' back to the office so she could do a few errands.

Melissa was forever taking the most scenic route home that she could imagine. "I know a shortcut," she would say, and I immediately knew we would be gone for at least an extra half hour.

Her shortcuts started when she first got her permit; she was never ready to go home and give up her position behind the wheel, so she would take the car and the lucky parent to be in the car with her on a fun adventure.

She would go out to the end of the spit and back, then down Kachemak drive and out east end a bit before eventually ending up home. Or she would do the West Hill/East Hill loop. Once she even tried to convince me to let her go to Anchor Point.

I need to take more shortcuts, more scenic routes in my daily life. Forget about the destination, just enjoy the trip.

We all need to slow down and take more "short cuts" and enjoy life to the fullest. Look at the surroundings around us and thank God that he allows us to see them and enjoy. Life is very precious and oft times very short - so "smell the roses"!
