On Sunday, May 23, 2004, we presented two scholarships in Honor of Melissa; at Glacierview Baptist Church. We chose two young ladies who were a very big part of Melissa's life and meant a lot to her.
Misti McLay, even though she was Melissa's cousin, was an important part of Melissa's growing up. Some good and some bad influences (on both sides), but always there for each other. She was a person who looked up to Melissa and who Melissa could always count on when she needed help or someone just to go places with (like the state fair). Misti plans on attending Cedarville College this fall and working towards a teaching degree and doing photograpy on the side.
Hannah Fennell was another childhood friend who was a great pal. Then she moved to Minn., but picked up the friendship right where it left off when she moved back to Homer. She was someone that Melissa could talk to and discuss things with. And Hannah was always ready to go places in Melissa's black "potato" truck. Hannah is going to attend Moody Bible College this fall and work towards Mission service.
Both of these young ladies received checks for $300.00. Val and I had no questions about who to chose this year to receive the scholarships. Lord willing we will be able to continue giving scholarships every year in Melissa's honor.

Melissa loved watching Pee Wee's Playhouse when she was younger. The talking chair and the mail carrier were her favorite characters. I never understood why she liked it so much, but then her taste in entertainment wasn't the best.
