« Pretend Dead | Main | Highs » February 19 | Shields Up
In the summers we would climb up on top of the playhouse and, behind the railings, spin wild tales of make believe. Sometimes the playhouse would be a large ship and we would take turns being captain. Sometimes I would declare that we were on the star ship Enterprise, though Melissa would seldom go along with it. Once or twice I remember a hat being involved, perhaps to show who was in charge of that particular game. But there were always the bolts. On two corners of the railings were bolts holding the whole contraption together. There weren't many of them, but they were enough. The bolts would be the way to start the engine, pull up the anchor, or activate the shields.
